What are the requirements for renting a car?
The Driver must have a valid driver’s permit with no less than 1 year of driving experience and a Passport of their home country. In some cases, an International Driving Permit may also be needed, so it’s advisable to have it just in case.
How do I know if I have rented a private car instead of a properly registered rental car?
The most direct way is to take a look at a third-party insurance sticker, which is always stuck on the windscreen on the passenger side. for a rental vehicle, there will be somewhere where it reads commercial vehicle, while a private passenger vehicle will show “PASSENGER (PRIVATE)”.
What are the risks of hiring and driving a private vehicle?
There is not much risk in this, but if you hire a private car for self-driving, the insurance agencies would not provide any coverage in case of an accident. But Car Rental Kenya Ltd fleets are mostly private cars, but insured for commercial business, so in case of an accident, you will still be covered. Do observe that driving a car without proper insurance is an offense, and if caught, the driver could face both a fine and jail.
What does the car rental rate cover?
The rates cover a hired vehicle on a 24-hour basis; for instance, if the vehicle is collected at around 12 pm today and you are going for one day hire, it is expected to be returned at 12 pm the next day. In case of a delay for more than 2hours you will be charged an extra half-day. Our offices are open from 8 am to 6 pm from Monday to Friday, and our insurance will not compensate if the hirer drives the car past 7:00 pm, as stated in our rental policy.
What if I need to extend the rental period?

The extra day/days will be either paid by the client at the end of the rental period, or the client can pay for them using the visa card.
What if I am unable to return the car on time?
It is the client’s obligation to inform the car rental company that he/she will not be able to return the car on time, and even give a reason. Every excess hour will be charged an extra fee of one-fifth of the agreed rental rate. However, it is up to the company’s discretion to accept the delay.
Do I need to refill the petrol tank?
In most cases, our vehicles are served when they’re a quarter tank, so you are expected to return the vehicle when it’s in a quarter tank, and if you bring it when it’s below, then you will be charged extra money for fuel.
What if the vehicle is involved in an accident?
You must report all accidents to the company immediately. Should there be any bodily injuries, you must report to the authorities after informing the company and have the police statement.
What if the vehicle breaks down?
You must report all vehicle breakdowns to the company immediately. The 24-hour Emergency Breakdown Service is provided to you at no extra cost. If the vehicle can’t move anymore, the company will send you a replacement vehicle, and it will be free. Please have this in mind: punctured tires, unfilled petrol tank, flat battery, loss of vehicle key, or key locked inside the vehicle do not constitute a breakdown.
What if I get a parking fine?
You will be in charge of all parking and traffic violation fines.
