A campsite is a well-designed area set up for camping purposes. A campsite is an area, usually divided into a number of camping pitches, where people can camp overnight using tents, camper-vans or caravans.

Some campsites are basic without developed amenities while others are well equipped with facilities like toilets, showers, water, cooking grills and so on. The basic camping grounds are just set for travellers to pitch their tents and public toilets.

Basic knowledge to set up a camping site/ground

Get a well levelled and drained ground – avoid water logged places which will keep flood when it rains.

Plant trees to create a shade – natural shades from trees offers fresh air and cools the area especially during dry season. However, you should be caution of large dead branches overhead.

Keep enough distance from water bodies like lakes and Rivers to avoid floods. For that case, it’s wise to set up a camping ground at a gently sloping land (Hilly areas).

Set up a safe location for tents because they are pitched on a well levelled ground to avoid wind blowing challenges and flooding hazards.

Set a glamping site with already pitched tents, yurts, cabins with beds, electricity and toilets among others to cater for luxurious clients who are ready to find everything on site.

Security at the site – a safe campsite must be with a reasonable security guards or dogs to keep campers and their belongings. For travellers to stay comfortable at the campsite, they must be assured of a reasonable security at site.

Prepare source of light like Hydro power, Generator or solar power to provide light in tents and the surrounding areas.

Source of water – the owner of the campsite can install pumped water. Alternatively, the campers should carry enough water in jerricans.

Separate sleeping and eating areas – Endeavor to put some distance between your eating and sleeping areas. This keeps wild animals away from your tent hence your safety. The food leftovers attract wild animals some of which are so dangerous.

Set a fire place – Its one of the major essentials at the campsite. Travellers at fire place can warm, cook and keep wild animals away from the camping site.
